BREAKING WEATHER NEWS

While much of the country has been enjoying balmy winter days under a broad high pressure system, the far southeastern corner has been experiencing strong, brisk winds and showers throughout most of the week.
Tasmanians are bracing for more wild weather as the state mops up from destructive storms and flash flooding in the past two days.
Homes have been inundated by flash flooding in northern Tasmania just hours after the north-west was pounded by severe winds that left a trail of destruction and caused widespread power cuts.
A landholder near what is set to become the biggest coal mine in Australia says the project will severely impact her family's grazing operation.
Michael Berwick owns the Misan Craftwood business at Roundhill near Burnie Tasmania, and says a severe storm hit the area at around six o'clock last night.
Very strong winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms have been buffeting Tasmania, causing damage and flooding, and there is much more on the way.

Brisbane is situated on the east coast and is Australia's third largest city with a population of about 2 million people.

Sprawling along the banks of the winding Brisbane River, and situated between the Great Dividing Range to the west and Moreton Bay to the east, Brisbane has a subtropical climate with hot, humid summers and dry, mild winters.

Humidity is high during the summer months and temperatures can reach as much as 40C with night temps rarely dropping below 20C. Summer storms with damaging hail, torrential rain and lightning are common in late afternoons on hot, humid days

In winter, Brisbane's climate is usually dry and sunny, with daytime maximum temperatures normally above 20C. Winters are mild and very pleasant with little rain and sunny skies.

Brisbane averages 245 days of fine and sunny weather each year and has an average annual rainfall of about 1400mm. Most of the rain comes in the period from late spring through early autumn (October through March).
